The Anacrouse collection offers pianists, beginners and advanced alike, a wide choice of classical works from the Renaissance to the present day. It brings together major works of the repertoire as well as rarer pieces, and also offers transcriptions for piano solo or four hands, selected for their musical and educational interest. Each score, available individually, benefits from careful editorial work: a rigorously established musical text, clear and legible engraving, accompanied by a short biography of the composer and a note on the work.

The solo piano transcription of these “4 Excerpts from the Ballet The Sleeping Beauty” (Dance of the Duchesses, Baronesses, Countesses and Marchionesses) rests on bringing out the orchestral timbres through keyboard playing alone. For the pianist, the challenge is to convey the spirit of each social rank represented: the score alternates between dry, almost mischievous articulations and nobler, more sustained lines. The technical work focuses on finger independence to bring out the left-hand counter-melodies while keeping the right hand light and bouncing. This adaptation demands great rhythmic discipline to maintain the dance tempo, while offering a valuable exercise in dynamics and contrasts of touch.

Composed between 1888 and 1889 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893), this ballet is considered the absolute masterpiece of Russian classical dance. These four choreographic miniatures, part of the hunting scene in Act II, serve to illustrate the hierarchy and elegance of the royal court. Through this transcription, the piano takes over the tribute Tchaikovsky paid to the French music of the age of Louis XIV, blending the formal rigour of the past with the harmonic richness of Slavic Romanticism. It is a captivating immersion in Perrault’s fairy-tale world, transformed here into a pianistic character suite.
