The Anacrouse collection offers pianists, beginners and advanced alike, a wide choice of classical works from the Renaissance to the present day. It brings together major works of the repertoire as well as rarer pieces, and also offers transcriptions for piano solo or four hands, selected for their musical and educational interest. Each score, available individually, benefits from careful editorial work: a rigorously established musical text, clear and legible engraving, accompanied by a short biography of the composer and a note on the work.

Charles Gounod’s “Ave Maria” in E flat major is transposed here for low voices (contralto or bass). This key makes it possible to explore the depth and richness of timbre in the low register, while offering valuable pedagogical support for work on resonance and breath control over an ample, solemn melodic line.

Composed in 1852, this melody is in fact a brilliant superimposition: Gounod wrote his vocal line over the first Prelude of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, composed more than a century earlier. This meeting between Baroque genius and French Romantic sensibility gave birth to a universal work whose spiritual power and melodic purity remain unequalled.
