The Anacrouse collection offers pianists, beginners and advanced alike, a wide choice of classical works from the Renaissance to the present day. It brings together major works of the repertoire as well as rarer pieces, and also offers transcriptions for piano solo or four hands, selected for their musical and educational interest. Each score, available individually, benefits from careful editorial work: a rigorously established musical text, clear and legible engraving, accompanied by a short biography of the composer and a note on the work.

The solo piano transcription of the “Steamship Rag-time”, made by Jean-François Pailler, captures the syncopated spirit and insolent modernity of this emblematic excerpt from the ballet Parade. For the pianist, the challenge lies in the precision of the rhythmic swing and the control of the left hand, which must provide a stable pulse against the melodic offsets characteristic of the style. The quality of this edition shows in precise fingerings that make it easier to articulate the “jazz” playing of the period, as well as in engraving of great clarity. The choice of typefaces and the airy layout make it easy to grasp the accents and dry dynamics, making this transcription perfectly effective for the keyboard while preserving the original orchestral flavour.

The “Steamship Rag-time” is one of the most famous moments of Parade (1917), in which Erik Satie (1866-1925) incorporates the American rhythms then exploding across Europe. Accompanying the pantomime of the “little American girl”, this piece blends French irony with the mechanical drive of the New World. Thanks to Jean-François Pailler’s transcription, this excerpt becomes a self-standing character piece, full of verve and brilliance. This edition allows the pianist to explore Satie’s unique vision, which transforms a popular genre into an avant-garde artistic object, while enjoying optimal comfort of reading and performance.
