The Anacrouse collection offers pianists, beginners and advanced alike, a wide choice of classical works from the Renaissance to the present day. It brings together major works of the repertoire as well as rarer pieces, and also offers transcriptions for piano solo or four hands, selected for their musical and educational interest. Each score, available individually, benefits from careful editorial work: a rigorously established musical text, clear and legible engraving, accompanied by a short biography of the composer and a note on the work.

The “Andante Spianato” (in G major) is a summit of the piano literature for work on legato and sonority. As its name suggests (“spianato” meaning “smoothed” or “even”), the piece demands extremely fluid, seamless playing, with the left hand rippling in rocking arpeggios. The challenge for the pianist is to let the right-hand melody float with an almost vocal simplicity, while mastering the delicate ornaments that blossom through the discourse. It is a masterly study in transparency of tone and serenity of phrasing.

Composed by Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) between 1830 and 1834, this Andante serves as a luminous introduction to the Grande Polonaise Brillante, Opus 22. While the Polonaise unfolds a heroic energy, the Andante seems suspended outside time, evoking a nocturnal barcarolle on the Venetian lagoons. It bears witness to the profound influence of Italian opera and bel canto on the Polish composer. A true jewel of refinement, this piece illustrates Chopin’s ideal: music that seems to flow naturally, concealing complexity of writing behind an apparent and divine simplicity.
