Johann Sebastian Bach
Badinerie BWV 1067The Anacrouse collection offers pianists, beginners and advanced alike, a wide choice of classical works from the Renaissance to the present day. It brings together major works of the repertoire as well as rarer pieces, and also offers transcriptions for piano solo or four hands, selected for their musical and educational interest. Each score, available individually, benefits from careful editorial work: a rigorously established musical text, clear and legible engraving, accompanied by a short biography of the composer and a note on the work.
The “Badinerie” (in B minor), presented here in a solo piano transcription by David Neyrolles, is a witty piece that demands great agility and very crisp articulation. This title is taken from the reference songbook “9 Famous Classical Themes for Piano”, the second volume of the Anacrouse collection. This elementary-to-intermediate transcription makes it possible to approach Baroque virtuosity with fluid writing, working on lightness of bounce and independence of the hands to convey the leaping character of this famous theme.
The last movement of Orchestral Suite No. 2 (BWV 1067), composed by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) around 1738, the Badinerie is one of the most popular pages in the flute repertoire. A true demonstration of gaiety and brio, this piece has become a classical-music staple, frequently used in the media and in cinema. This edition allows the pianist to rediscover at the keyboard all the spirit, brilliance and mischief of this masterpiece of the Baroque period.
