The Anacrouse collection offers pianists, beginners and advanced alike, a wide choice of classical works from the Renaissance to the present day. It brings together major works of the repertoire as well as rarer pieces, and also offers transcriptions for piano solo or four hands, selected for their musical and educational interest. Each score, available individually, benefits from careful editorial work: a rigorously established musical text, clear and legible engraving, accompanied by a short biography of the composer and a note on the work.

The “Prelude No. 6 in B minor, Op. 28” is one of the most poignant and melancholy pages of Chopin’s cycle. From a pedagogical point of view, it is a fundamental study for left-hand work: the left hand carries the melody with the depth of a cello, while the right hand provides a discreet, regular accompaniment of repeated chords. The difficulty lies in the expressiveness of this bass melody and the mastery of muted dynamics, characteristic of Chopin’s “legato” playing.

Composed during the winter of 1838-1839 during Chopin’s stay in Majorca, this prelude is often associated with the sombre atmosphere of the Valldemossa monastery. Nicknamed “The Tolling Bell” by some contemporaries because of its repeated notes in the right hand, it embodies Chopin’s Romantic genius, able to concentrate immense dramatic intensity into an extremely brief form.
