The Anacrouse collection offers pianists, beginners and advanced alike, a wide choice of classical works from the Renaissance to the present day. It brings together major works of the repertoire as well as rarer pieces, and also offers transcriptions for piano solo or four hands, selected for their musical and educational interest. Each score, available individually, benefits from careful editorial work: a rigorously established musical text, clear and legible engraving, accompanied by a short biography of the composer and a note on the work.

The piece “The Swan” (in G major) is a monument of lyricism that demands great control of touch from the pianist. The challenge lies in separating the hands: the left hand and the middle of the keyboard trace an accompaniment of flowing arpeggios evoking the movement of the water, while the right hand must bring out a sovereign melody of absolute calm. Work on the pedal is essential here to bind the harmonies without ever disturbing the clarity of the melody. It is an ideal piece for developing legato and depth of sound.

Taken from the famous Carnival of the Animals composed in 1886, this piece holds a special place in the life of Camille Saint-Saëns. While the composer forbade public performance of the other movements of the suite during his lifetime — judging them too parodic or light for his reputation as a serious musician — he authorised the publication of “The Swan” alone. This melody of timeless nobility has become, beyond its original purpose, one of the most famous themes in the repertoire, inspiring the greatest choreographers and instrumentalists the world over.
